Are you about to expire? (Certificate Renewal)

Updated:

Are you going to Expire ?

Every couple of years, your Lotus Notes certificate will expire and the system will start giving you warnings about this approximately 6-8 weeks before the certificate expires.  When you receive your first warning message, you need to send your certificate to a Lotus Notes administrator who will update the certificate accordingly. Here and example of the message:

Not letting your certificate expire is very important!!  If the certificate expires, you will need to allow additional time on top of the already needed time to have the certificate renewed.  Below are appropriate steps to request a certificate renewal and to accept a renewed certificate.

- In your Lotus Notes menu, go to File, Security, User Security...  You will be prompted for your Lotus Notes password; type in your password and press the ENTER key or click the OK button.

- You will be presented with the User ID window (See Window #2 below).  On the  side of that window, click on the Renew button.  Then,  you will be presented with the Confirm Renew window (See Window #3 below).  Select Continue then In the "To:" field, type the name "IT Notes Certifier";  or Select this group name from the Address Book then, press the SEND button; close the User ID window and that completes the request process.

Within one business week of requesting a Certificate Renewal, you will receive an email stating that your certificate has been renewed and the renewed certificate will be attached.  Follow the next set of steps to accept the certificate:

- Open the email that contains the renewed certificate; you MUST open the email!  On the Lotus Notes menu, go to Actions, Accept Certificate.  This will install your renewed certificate.

- Delete the email that contains the renewed certificate, and this will complete the process

If you want to double check afterwards if the certificate was renewed successfully go to File - Security - User Security...

Check the ID File expiration date on that window, it should be about two years from todays date.
